My spouse just got a new macbook, and I've just updated to the latest version of FreeNAS, so it's a good time to try and get this setup properly, but most guides I'm finding are years old and talk about using AFP, which is apparently depreciated by Apple at this point. I just downloaded the latest version of FreeNAS 11.3-U3.2 and installed it on my host (running ESXi 6.7 u3). The OS is installed on a SSD Raid 1 array and the storage will be on a 5 TB HDD datastore.
